I do not think it is a fad now! i believe that when facebook twitter and tumblr had started it was meant to be a place where you keep in touch with friends and family but now it has grown.
Social media has become an outlet for people to speak their minds and to be heard, even if no one reads, sees, or hears it. It just makes them feel better that they got there vent out, or something horrible happened to them and they need word to get out, or something amazing happened and they just want the world to see and smile.
I don't think it will go anywhere and if anything it will grow. The younger generation are already using social media and networking and they are going to think of ways to improve it even more.
Business are also not wanting it to go anywhere because it is getting there business known for so much cheaper then it would be for advertising in the news paper or in the phone book. The video I watched On social media was real eye opening. I'm not going to explain the video because you can just watch it here:

It showed me that things have grown so much in so little time, because it made me remember when facebook started. It was just a teenage thing where we can stay in contact with each other and share things and show photos, ect. And just recently even my parents and grandparents got facebook. When facebook just started there was no advertisements or anything. It was also simple but confusing at the same time (if that makes sense). So how facebook as changed in what 7 years my guess, it wont stop changing and more social sites will start. Like Myspace came out, then facebook, then social network sites exploded! Youtube came with twitter, tumblr, linkedin, and more (those are all that I know...)
My grandfather also joined Facebook recently, and already he's online practically all the time. It's given him a connection to the world he didn't even think was possible. In a short time he's become completely connected to his family and people he lost contact with years ago. Now they're sharing all their stories with each other. Maybe from his perspective, this is a revolution.
ReplyDeleteI agree with the last bit you said. More people are starting to see how successful social media is becoming and are hopping on the bandwagon! One day, there's going to be billions of social media sites...
ReplyDeleteI definitely agree with what you said. i don't think theres any way that social media will be going away, It's spread so much in such a short amount of time. Like you said about your family getting Facebook, most of my family has joined in the last year or so and I'm pretty sure they use it more than even i do. I also agree with what you said about businesses, to me that one of the biggest reasons why i don't think social media will be going away.
